Jon Schmidt - Love Story & Viva La Vida (instrumental)
I love a capella because I feel voices are so pure without accompaniment (haha, see my post about The Trojan Men below), but I almost forgot how lovely instruments can be on their own.
I found this video on another dear Janet’s blog. I haven’t talked to her in so long, but I always remember how musical she was, in our freshman year dorm. Sometimes we used to sit in the middle of the hallway and just sing. It was a wonderfully cathartic feeling. She was one of the few people who made me feel confident enough to sing in front of. That’s such a personal thing—to break out into song in front of someone else. Talk about vulnerable!
Back to the video, my favorite part is the end when he explains his inspiration and catalyst behind the arrangement. I’m thinking about taking up piano again, after seven years of my hands falling into disuse. This time, not to appease my parents and my terrifying Russian piano teacher, but simply to enjoy the music.
